Magic Kingdom....

That 6am wake up call came pretty quick Thursday morning – but we all managed to be ready and on the bus for our 7am reservations for breakfast with the characters at Chef Mickey’s….it’s amazing what energy you can gather up on vacation, isn’t it? Matthew was that impressed with the characters at breakfast, and we are thinking it’s because they were dressed in chef outfits and not their normal garb. He enjoyed himself just the same, and my brother especially enjoyed seeing the characters up close in personal!

We were then off to the Magic Kingdom for the early hours there……early yes, but it was SO hot and humid, we all felt like slugs. And, it was such a bummer but the castle was under construction and there was a huge crane in all of our pictures AND part of Main Street was under construction as well so it kind of took away from the “magical” feeling of walking into the Magic Kingdom. We did enjoy the fall decorations just the same and were wishing for the fall weather instead of the massive heat and humidity….we are so not hot weather folks!

There were few lines, so we tried to go on Peter Pan’s flight and Snow White – and poor Matthew was scared to death of these 2 rides. I don’t remember them being scary when I went before, but he was surely frightened so we made a quick dash to flying Dumbo to get his mind off of things. He enjoyed that – but I think the heat was catching up to him. He started signing drink, so we found a spot in the shade and got some drinks for all. Matthew actually decided he was going to drink Uncle Dave’s smoothy – good thing that Uncle Dave loves him so much. Dave and Chris then went to do some rides in the park, and my Mom and I strolled through Toon Town with Matthew and found an air-conditioned store where Matthew got a Mr. Potato Head with Disney pieces. He worked on it for a while and that was his gift with the Disney Bucks Aunt Megs had sent along for Matthew. It was a quite a sight to see what him and his Mom-Mom had designed!

We watched the parade, but then all looked at each other soaked in sweat and realized it was time to head back to the hotel. We had promised Davey some swimming time in the bowling pin pool, and Matthew was surely drooping. In fact, he then took his first nap of the trip, and slept for 2 hours with his Mom-Mom resting beside him. He then got his pool time which always makes him happy with all of us.
Soon it was time for Mickey’s Backyard BBQ, which we had tickets for that evening. (You see, Disney was offering free dining, but the reservations were all taken, so we kind of got stuck with this…….and we would NOT do it again!) We had to take THREE buses to get there, it was outside in the horrid heat, and the food was terrible. Not usual for Disney, that’s for sure. The best part was Matthew and David dancing with the characters for a short period of time, then we had to take THREE buses back to the hotel which took forever. We are not complainers but we did talk to the manager at the hotel and got our meal back since it was so bad. Yikes….it was a long night, and when Matthew signed ALL DONE MOMMY…..bus please, we knew we were ALL done!!! And he was so tolerant of 3 buses….we were confused, we can’t imagine what HE was thinking…..

Next stop tomorrow…….Animal Kingdom, Matthew loves animals so we were looking forward to this!
