Target and popcorn.....YES!

After a VERY hard week, it was nice to just relax and enjoy the beautiful, unseasonably warm weather that we had the past 2 days. Chris and I decided that we needed to put all of the events from the past week aside, and just get out and enjoy each other and Matthew. We can't change anything that happened last week from Matthew's "simple" surgery not being able to happen because of finding another issue after he was under anesthesia, to praying for Matthew to have an auditory nerve with his MRI on Wednesday, then finding out he does BUT there are other issues that need to be worked out after finding them on his brain MRI before we can go down the road to cochlear implants until we have those answers, to watching Matthew cry getting his shots on Friday while working on a cold and a runny nose..................to having our own personal medical issues that needed to be taken care of..................................oh, and let's not forget our refrigerator going bad and the water line leaking through the roof in our finished basement.........yes, we absolutely needed to just spend time together and forget about the "reality" things and just live for the moment!

Thankfully my Mom was here from Wednesday to Friday to go with Matthew and I to his MRI with anesthesia, babysit him as he was still out of it on Thursday, and be with us for his pediatrician appt. on Friday where he got 3 shots, poor thing! That was a blessing for sure to have someone there. Uncle Dave is also loving to help take care of Matthew - so that's been fun to watch evolve too.

Chris went to his company golf outing yesterday morning and Matthew and I caught up on cleaning and laundry - fun stuff! But, with him loving to ride the vacuum and help Swifter it certainly takes me longer to clean! After a short nap, Mommy needed to get out a little, so we headed to Babies R Us for some necessary items and then got a surprise call from Daddy that he was already on his way home and would meet us at our favorite store - Target! We printed some pictures, Matthew had some popcorn for a snack and played with the big balls in the toy aisle, and we got just the things we needed including a baby pool for Matthew since it was 90plus degrees here! We tried to go to the playground, but it was closed for construction which ended up being OK because Matthew fell asleep in the car.

Matthew slept pretty well last night which was nice (only up 3 times instead of 6 :) and we decided that we were going to head out to Pinchot Park and lake today for some family time. We packed a lunch, the sunscreen, Matthew's sand toys - and headed out. What a wonderful time we had! Matthew loved eating at the picnic table and is such a big boy with his sandwich all to his own!!! We then ventured to the sand area and he wasn't quite sure about having sand in his sandals! We will get there though! He did then start digging a little, but it sure was hot. We walked by the lake and saw some crawlfish in the water. We then let Matthew swing for a while which he loves, then we headed back to the table for drinks. We thought for sure Matthew was ready to nap so we packed up - but he was wide awake so we went to another area of the park where you could fish and Matthew and Daddy fished together for the first time!!!! Matthew must have had great luck because he caught a little sunny right away thanks to the string cheese we used for bait!!!!! Check out the video of Matthew catching his first fish!!!

After heading home - we blew up his little pool, dressed him in his swimsuit and introduced him to the swimming pool!!! He wasn't sure what to make of it at first, but after a short while he was splashing, squirting his Mommy with his new water toy thanks to his Daddy egging him on!!! After about an hour, he was shivering and it was almost 5pm so we decided to call it a day and head straight for the bath for tubby time!

We had some dinner on the grill again complete with Matthew dressed in his cute summer PJ's - he just makes us smile so much. It was just a wonderful week-end spent together, and we were able to put all of the sadness away from the last week and refocus on the days to come.....please pray for us to stay calm until we get the answers that we need, that we can remain positive about things, and that we can stay focused on everything else we need to accomplish to get Matthew the care he needs and that we are sent to the right doctors to get everything taken care of.

I know you guys have so much going on right now and I praise God that He sent you a sunny weekend so that you could be outside and enjoy family life. Isn't it amazing how a bit of time in sunshine with the people you love can lift your spirits? Look back over these pictures and dwell on these memories in the coming weeks! And know that as always, I'm praying for you!
